Chapter Thirty

“Is...is that Misha Levin on your bedroom wall?” Pietr blinked at the rookie poster above the full-sized bed that Harper had hopped into the middle of. She was in a very similar pose to the one she’d sat naked in the night before. He liked it when her clothes were on too.

“I had forgotten all about it. It’s probably the last thing I ever put up before I left for college.” She laughed. “Mom has this thing about leaving our rooms alone. You know, in case we ever come home again.”

“Levin. Fucking Levin.” Pietr couldn’t resist the grin. “How could you?” He shook his head, digging his phone out of his hoodie pocket. “Hold on. This goes on ‘gram. Meesh is getting tagged. New rivalry is being formed today.”

“Oh my god! You really do want me to die of embarrassment.”

He captured a picture of her peeking through her fingers, the Levin poster behind her. Her cheeks were pink, and he could still see her shy smile behind her hands. He shook his head as he uploaded the photo into Instagram. He played a little with the image settings, then began typing.

@NBWyatt.Write has poster of @MishaLevin.NHL in teen years bedroom. So Awkward! Worst Christmas Ever. #RivalaryIsBorn #LoveThemAnyway #TheWorst #MNNorthernLights #VintageHockeyMemorabilia #Old

“I told you when we met that I liked Misha. He’s an amazing player! I’d have to be blind to call myself a hockey fan and yet miss his skill.”

“You don’t have mine?”

“I was in college when you had your NHL debut. And I didn’t follow LA,” she argued. “I had other things on my mind at the time.”

“I see,” he retorted. “I am not good enough? I was fourth pick my draft year, so I—”

Harper got off the bed, crossing the room to wrap her arms around him. “Think about it. If that was your poster up there, wouldn’t you be worried that I was a creepy fan girl? That I’m only with you because of some obsession?” She pressed a kiss to his cheek. “It’s a miracle we found each other.” She caught his lips against hers this time. “You’re the only one for me.”

“Take it down,” he requested sternly.

“No,” she pouted, “it’s like...part of my journey.”

“Journey ends today.” He was grinning, so she knew he was (mostly) joking. “We can burn it in the cabin tonight before making love.”

She rolled her eyes.

There was a ping from Pietr’s hand and he looked down at his phone. He gave a little bark of laughter.

“Never mind,” he announced. “We can sell. Meesh offered you a thousand dollars for it.”

“He did not.”

“He did.” He turned the phone toward her.

[MISHA] Cute pic of Harper on Instagram. I’ll take that poster off her hands for $1000. I wouldn’t want to come between you two.

“It is not for sale –you can tell him that,” Harper declared.

[PIETR] They say it is not for sale.

[PIETR] I will see if I can get them to change their mind.

[MISHA] If they want to keep it, tell them to bring back to New York.
